I am currently rather stoned on DayQuil, due to sinus issues (possibly a cold, possibly just winter + sensitive sinuses); postnasal drip causing a sore throat and coughing, with a sinus headache and my cheeks aching for the same reason. Fun!

So [info]spotweld threw an idea at me in my DayQuil-induced reverie, and I was like, "Fuck yeah, lesbian sky pirates!"

The hyena was his idea…her girlfriend is an Adelie penguin and my idea.

No idea what I'll do with these two, but it could be fun. I don't work with steampunk-themed stuff all that often.

NYSOM

So many of my stories don't get anywhere outside of my own brain. In some cases, considering the inane shit that goes on in there, this is a good thing. In other cases, it leaves characters hanging around and looking like they serve no purpose.

Tricia, my striped hyena girl from NYSOM. And yes, her pregnancy is completely canon -- it's actually been in the plans for quite some time.

Trish is the oldest of the main NYSOM crew, in her early to mid-thirties (everyone else is in their twenties; Thursday is the youngest). She's the only one of the five girls who is in all technicality single, she's the most educated (been to law school), and of the main crew (not counting side characters, of which there are way too many) she's the only native New Yorker, having grown up in Brooklyn. She's a tough broad, when you get right down to it.

Then Michael Morrison joins the law firm she works for and her life is thrown for a bit of a loop. He's fresh out of law school, and though he's working for a major law firm he's also still very...young. His idea of a fun night is pizza and video games. Trish is charmed, and Michael is amazed when he realizes that she's as interested in him as he is in her.

Their relationship is more "friends with benefits" than relationship, with terms agreed to early on between them, the first of which being that no one at work must know. Trish had been with the firm for years and with Michael just starting out, it would not look good. But hey, foolin' around, that's fine -- if either finds someone they'd rather be with, they can end it, easy as pie.

And then Trish gets a rather serious ear infection, isn't warned that the antibiotics she's taking null the effects of The Pill (yes, this is actually a warning on many antibiotics), one thing leads to another leads to another leads to...well. A sort of re-evaluation of the places both Tricia and Michael are at in life.

None of this dialogue is final, of course...I'm just roughing out ideas for how to present it. How do you bring up the idea of a character getting an abortion (which is talked about) without starting a flamewar? How do you bring up the idea of starting a family with a guy you were having what qualified as a silly little fling with (though he seems rather okay with the idea of maintaining the relationship, doesn't he), or being a single mother?

Obviously she does go through with the pregnancy. Actually, she'll end up going into labor at Adeline's wedding reception (oh yeah, the cliches are so totally worth it), eventually giving birth to twin boys.

But I'll get to that when I get to it.

And some random female nudity; anteater & armadillo. )

Life is full of uncertainties.

Right now, my life is a jumble of them.

I got a call on Friday afternoon concerning a job. This is, count 'em, the THIRD call I've had concerning a job since January...despite hundreds of my resumes floating out there. So of course, I called back and left a message that hopefully didn't sound too pleading.

Of course, they called on Friday afternoon at 4:30 -- the end of the work day and the end of the work week. Most likely I will not hear back until Monday morning (and of course, I'll be calling back Monday morning because it's been a long ten months and the idea of actually hearing back from anyone is sort of beyond my hopes at this point). I consider this cruel and unusual. It's a whole weekend of more than likely soon-to-be-crushed possibilities and hopes.

The job, and the interview -- if I get one -- is in Ohio.

So. Yeah. Lots of things to ponder over, stress out over, and wonder about. There are lots of possible changes. And, there's a strong possibility all this worrying will be for naught and I'll call on Monday and "Oh, you have to MOVE? Well, geez, why should we even think about interviewing you, let alone hiring you?"

Like I said. Cruel and unusual.

Sigh.

I'm not cynical

Playing with styles.

Also playing with the idea of an autobiographical comic.

No idea if this will go anywhere, though I have scripted out quite a bit of it...because it's autobiography and remembering ten months ago isn't too hard.

I think I'm just proving that I can interchange these guys between their furry selves and their human selves and there is very little difference outside of character design =p

(I actually am extremely fond of Johanna's human design, but I'm not sure if that's because I like her as a character/she's basically a fictionalized version of me. It's almost narcissism, except it's not.)

This will be the last page I post here for a while because the current plan is to get a whole issue done and either start posting it online or publishing it, or possibly both. I guess the question is more, Would anyone actually buy it? Since it's black-and-white, shouldn't be too expensive to produce or purchase...

Either way. I'm trying to keep up with drawing 3 pages a week, so we'll see how that goes.

If I keep up a pace like this, these things might be worthy of their own website.

Sooner or later.

The drawings aren't perfect. They're wobbly, and I'm sure it will come to bother me as I progress through this.

Right now, though, I don't care. I'm actually getting something done. That doesn't happen too often.

I do not like fashion. I was trying to find a decent reference for a Little Black Dress and I realized: I don't get it. At all. I paged through various fashion websites, staring at models who really need a sandwich. Models who I assume have no idea what ice cream is. Wearing what looks like garbage bags. Or possibly the interior of a Chrysler Cordoba.

The first doodle is before I went on my fashion-hunting pilgrimage. The other two are not from recent times; I started looking up vintage dresses, back when having hips wasn't a bad thing. Personally I'm a fan of fashions from the 1920s through the 1960s, for varying reasons...one of which probably being "Why the hell can't we still dress like that?"

Anyway, doodles of Caitlin. Trying to get a "Whoa." reaction from the audience ("Oh, wow, she's pretty sexy, actually,"), but unfortunately my skill with fashion negates that, more or less.

Playing with character designs for coworkers of Caitlin's. Part of me wants to make them a species that would seem really odd in a funeral home (a peacock, maybe, or a Yorkshire terrier), but obviously the part of me that won the argument -- this time -- was the one that chose the obvious scavenger species. This is something I'll be playing around with for a bit as aspects of the story develop further. Normally my characters' species has nothing to do with their personality or job; I'm still tossing the ideas around, and I'm finding it a bit...I suppose the word is "cliche."

Speaking of story development, I've been wanting to draw something like this with Dante forever. Cut for a reason. )

I am a creator: an artist, a writer, a storyteller. But sometimes I feel like I'm more like a funnel - someone out there is using me to tell their stories, to put them on paper, to refine them into what they are.

This is a theory that has been around for quite some time; I even have a dog tag that expresses it (given to me by my SO, long before we were a couple -- he's the one that put it into words). Of course, I'm only ever allowed bits and pieces of the story. It makes beginnings and endings a bit of a pain in the ass.

Dante's story, currently titled "Memoirs of Saints & Sinners" is one of my most developed. But it doesn't have an end. The farthest I've ever gotten is Adeline's wedding, where Dante meets back up with his childhood sweetheart, Sarah, and she's engaged and so on. Then the story kind of just peters off into nothingness.

Or at least, it did. Someone let me have what hopefully will be the beginning of an end today.

Meet Caitlin.

And her brothers, who are not a major part of the story but I felt like putting faces to names.

I knew, the moment I drew her, that she was a part of Dante's story. I still don't know really how much of it she will be, but signs are pointing to definite friendship and possible romance, so we'll see what happens...

I don't draw horses...pretty much ever. I'm not really sure why; probably because generally the only aspect ever drawn of horses is the fact that they are well-endowed. Though technically for their size they're properly endowed.

But I decided to randomly draw a couple horses. Well, ponies actually: Buck here is a Chincoteague Pony. I've always liked Chincoteague ponies in comparison to regular horses, I think for their body type: they're less lean (though probably equally muscular) than regular horses. Some are even chubby. I thought it'd be a fun body type to play with.

Buck and his sister, Dora-May. Though he calls her his kid sister, and technically she is, it's not by much: they're Irish twins and were born in the same year. Buck is very protective of his sister, which she finds cute, if irritating at times.

And then I drew them naked. )

So I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I'm sure
There's no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours...

Sweet like candy to my soul
Sweet you rock
And sweet you roll
Lost for you, I'm so lost for you
You come crash into me
And I come into you...

This popped out of nowhere one night. I was about halfway through with it before I even really started thinking about it.

I have no idea what's going on, but obviously it's a work-in-progress.

The rarely seen Avyana, my winged yellow fox girl. To think, I used to draw her all the time. I need to pay attention to my collection of characters again.
